The professor is discussing in certain mammals, when a female becomes a mother, she is less prone to fear and becomes braver. And the professor uses an experiment of mother and non-mother rats to illustrate this. Both mother and non-mother rats were put in a special-designed maze, a maze with both enclosed paths and open paths. The enclosed paths are like tunnels so rats feel safe exploring in them while open paths have no tops. The experiment showed that non-mother rats chose mostly to stay in the safe-feeling enclosed paths. They seemed fearful of the open paths and were very hesitant about exploring them. Some only walking a little ways down and then going back. But mother rats, on the other hand, they were much more confident about exploring the whole maze, both the enclosed paths and open paths. This increased bravery would make it easier for mother rats to leave the safety of their nest and risk exposure to danger and explore in order to find food for their young.
